Living Lab 2 expert
Pasquale Arca is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the National Research Council (CNR) in Italy. He obtained his PhD in Agricultural Sciences at the Department of Agriculture and the Desertification Research Centre (NRD) of the University of Sassari, with the topic “cropping systems for biomass production” and activities focused on measurement of soil C fluxes with respiration chambers and estimation of soil C residues of giant reeds. After a brief experience as a research fellow at the Department of Agriculture and the Desertification Research Centre on different bioenergy crop systems, he worked at the Institute of BioEconomy of CNR in Sassari on the assessment of the environmental footprint of sheep dairy production systems under Mediterranean conditions (LIFE Sheep to Ship project). In particular, he deepened his knowledge of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis tool and the soil C sequestration estimation method as a support to LCA. In addition, he has conducted field trials and experimental studies on improved pastures in Mediterranean silvoarable and silvopastoral systems. He participates in projects such as C-NEUTRAL FARMING and GRAZE CARB, which study the environmental footprint of silvopastoral systems, and in agroforestry projects such as LIVINGAGRO. At the same time, he works as a consultant for silvopastoral farmers and provides support to a family farm that raises dairy sheep in a silvopastoral system.
