Sara Maltoni is head of the Forest Value Chains Office at the Regional Agency for Forests and the Environment of Sardinia (FoReSTAS), a public agency that manages approximately 220.000 ha of forest land in Italy. After earning an MSc in Environmental Science and Technology at Imperial College (University of London) and a PhD in Monitoring and Management of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems (University of Sassari), she gained research experience at the National Research Council. Dr. Maltoni began working at the state forest agency as a public officer in 2007. During her years at FoReSTAS, she has coordinated many research and cooperation projects in the fields of non-wood forest products, such as cork, agroforestry, trails and ecotourism, ecosystem services, wildfire prevention and multi-resource forest management.
