Description
This one-day set of training courses is organized in the context of LIVINGAGRO, an EU funded project that aims to share innovations related to agroforestry with stakeholders working with olives and grazed woodlands in Mediterranean countries. Project activities are spotlighting different innovations with high business potential in the agrifood sector, especially in relation to agroforestry and its benefits.
The training is designed for those who are considering a business start-up, as well as those currently operating a small business and those that are interested in learning how to start a new business.
Τhe courses are addressed to businesses, universities and research institutions, farmers’ organisations, researchers and anyone else interested in acquiring basic knowledge on innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as the basic international legal framework governing them.
The training programme addresses the following two thematic areas, delivered in three courses:
- Legal aspects for innovative businesses
This part will cover topics such as an introduction to legal aspects and the need for action in the agri-food sector, trade and international agreements (the concept of sovereignty, World Trade Organization [WTO], Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual property Rights [TRIPS]), European Union’s external action (Supranational policies of EU, European Neighbourhood Policy, Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) – ‘Global Europe’ for the period 2021-2027), European Union’s trade policy: trade agreements (Associations agreements with Jordan and Lebanon: the main provisions, investment policy) and Commercial law (European and International commercial law).- Course I: Climate change policy framework & Agroforestry, Business Innovation;
- Course II: Start up creation, Market opportunities & Circular economy.
- Economic aspects for innovative businesses
This part will cover topics such as development of startups, innovation and entrepreneurship, development of business plans, sustainable finance, venture capital and liability insurance, competition analysis, technology transfer – dissemination.- Course III: Legal aspects.
The training will be delivered by the following experts of the Athena RC Sustainable Development Unit:
- Legal aspects: Professor Asterios Pliakos, Professor of European Law, Department of International and European Economic Studies at the Athens University of Economics and Business;
- Economic aspects: Dr. Conrad Landis, Post-doctoral Researcher at the Research Laboratory on Socio-Economic and Environmental Sustainability (RESEES), Athens University of Economics and Business, and a Researcher at Athena RC, Sustainable Development Unit;
- Lydia Papadaki, Researcher, PhD candidate at Athens University of Economics and Business.
The training language will be English, with simultaneous translation to Arabic. On-site participants will receive printed training material that will be available in both languages, English and Arabic. Learning material will also be available on the LIVINGAGRO project’s ICT platform.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the training event, participants will:
- Have learned about legal aspects related to the creation of innovative businesses;
- Have heard about basic principles of international commercial law;
- Be familiar with major aspects and implications of Intellectual Property Rights;
- Have been introduced to basic principles of startup development, innovation and entrepreneurship;
- Be familiar with the basic requirements for drafting a business plan.
